2011 IDP Infirmary – Week 1

Written By: Eric Olinger
Let’s talk about the injuries from last week’s games and what they mean moving forward.  The 2 obvious ones are Jon Beason and Eric Berry.
The Message Boards are running rampant with people looking for advice on how to fill the IDP Stud-sized hole in their rosters now. I own Jon Beason in multiple leagues and was worried going into Sunday that he was returning too soon. What a crappy time to be right. The obvious suggestion is to grab Dan Connor, who will man the middle in Carolina now. He held up respectably well last year when Thomas Davis went down and Beason was shifted to WLB.  Another popular player is Pat Angerer in Indianapolis. He played great Sunday and the Colts are running out of bodies in that LB corp already.

For Berry, there isn’t a real exciting in-house option on the Chiefs roster. Jon McGraw steps in to the starting role, but that is a HUGE downgrade. Your replacement will be better found somewhere else.  Like Kam Chancellor (Seattle), Lardarius Webb (Baltimore), Morgan Burnett (GB) or Craig Dahl (St. Louis).

Justin Tuck- NY Giants- Questionable-Neck
Says he’ll be ready for Monday night’s game with St. Louis. He also wanted to play last week but the doctors would give him medical clearance. Definitely in a wait-and-see pattern with this IDP Stud.
Daryl Washington- Cardinals- Questionable- Calf Strain
Went for an MRI and it came back normal, so it sounds like nothing serious. His agent says he expects him to play in Week 2 but might miss “several practices.”
Gary Brackett- Colts- Questionable- Sprained Shoulder
Brackett left Sunday’s game with this injury and did not return. When asked how long he would be out he said “I’m not sure.” For a guy coming off an injury-riddled season, it’s not what I’m looking to hear. It definitely sounds like he’ll miss at least one game.
Shawn Merriman- Bills- Probable- Shoulder
Nothing serious here.  Only missed a few plays.
Chris Carr- Ravens- Questionable- Hamstring
Coach Harbaugh has already expressed concern over the injury saying he wants to play it safe with Carr. In an effort to keep this minor injury from turning into something more serious, it sounds like he may be shut down for a week or two. Which means, more playing time for Waiver Wire darling Lardarius Webb.
Elvis Dumervil- Broncos- Probable- Strained Left Shoulder
Coach Fox has already said this is not a serious injury and his star DE could have returned. Have him in your lineups against Cincinnati.
James Harrison- Steelers- Questionable- Right Knee Contusion
Already admitting to not having all of his pre-double back surgery explosion, Harrison went down with a “mild” knee injury. I don’t trust him. He’s a declining veteran with “Buyer Beware” written all over him to me.
Brian Orakpo- Redskins- Probable- Sprained Ankle
Nothing to see here folks.  Keep him in your lineups versus Arizona this weekend.
