2020 IDP Rankings - Cornerbacks

Listed below are my 2020 Cornerback Rankings for IDP Redraft Leagues. I will continually update these throughout the off-season to reflect changes in free agency, defensive schemes, playing time, draft selections, etc. However, keep in mind that the information listed here is just a small sample of a much larger set of rankings and descriptions that are accessible through purchasing my 2020 IDP Fantasy Football Draft Guide.

Drafting Philosophy:

It's difficult to find cornerbacks that are consistent year-to-year producers as their opportunity is often reliant on how often quarterbacks throw the ball their direction, along with their role in the defensive scheme. To help find value, many owners leverage the "rookie corner rule" strategy which targets first year players at the position. Since these players typically get thrown at early and often, they tend to see above average point scoring opportunity. Another, albeit less effective, strategy is to seek out players on winning teams. These types of teams typically have leads over their opponents and therefore see a high amount of pass attempts as opposing teams play catch up.

Scoring System:
Solo Tackle = 1.5 points
Assist = 0.75 points
Tackles for Loss = 2 points
Sack = 4 points
Interception = 5 points
Forced Fumble = 4 points
Fumble Recovery = 4 points
Pass Deflection = 1.5 point
Defensive TD = 6 points
Safeties = 2 points

1Kyle Fuller CB - CHI (11), +1 vs. ECR
I typically try and avoid corners in leagues that don't require you to roster the position. However, Fuller is the exception as he's been one of the steady presences at corner since entering the league in 2014 and has showed he can produce top level numbers in a myriad of ways. In 2018, he hauled in a whopping 7 interceptions (with low tackle numbers) and last year he was the co-league leader in solo tackles with 73. At this point, I trust him to fulfill his ADP.

2Tre Flowers CB - SEA (6), +13 vs. ECR
Flowers has averaged 59 solo tackles and 15 assists to go along with 7.5 passes defensed over his first two seasons in the league. Additionally, he increased his interception totals from zero in his rookie season to three last year. Shaq Griffen graded out as a top 10 CB on the other side of the field which will force teams to throw Flowers way a lot and he should continue to produce at a DB3-/CB1- level.

3James Bradberry CB - NYG (11), +2 vs. ECR
Over his four seasons with the Panthers, Bradberry established himself as a consistent and reliable DB4+/CB2+ presence. During that time, he averaged 55.5 solo tackles, 14 assists, and 2 interceptions to go along with 11.5 passes defensed. Bradberry should see a similar amount of opportunity with the his new team - the Giants.

4Jeff Okudah CB - DET (5), +24 vs. ECR
Okudah was the first cornerback taken off the board in this year's draft (3rd overall) and for good reason - he has great footwork and is scheme diverse. He's not afraid to come up and stop the run either which should help his fantasy production, at least early in his career. He will immediately slot into a starting role opposite Desmond Trufant. Despite being a high draft choice and quite well regarded coming out of college, expect teams to challenge him early and often to see if he can stand up to the rigors and the speed of the NFL. This should translate to decent production in 2020 for the rookie out of Ohio State.

5Kenny Moore II CB - IND (7), -6 vs. ECR
Moore is one of those smaller-sized, undrafted corners that relies on his scrappiness and willingness to be active against the run to stand out. He's quickly and quietly turned into one of the league's premier run-defending cornerbacks (#2 behind Logan Ryan in total tackle frequency last year) and has been able to generate a handful of big plays to boot - 4 sacks and 5 interceptions across his last 26 games.
