2015 IDP Points Allowed By Position (Through Week 17)

Knowing which teams give up the most fantasy points to certain defensive positions is vital to the long-term success of any IDP owner. Having this type of information will allow you to make those tough weekly lineup decisions as well as spot key weekly waiver wire pickups throughout the season.

This article will be updated each week to reflect the average total points allowed by each NFL team to Defensive Ends, Defensive Tackles, Linebackers, Cornerbacks, and Safeties up until that particular point in the season. To start the 2015 season, these stats will be based upon 2014 points allowed. Starting at the beginning of Week 2, we will begin revising this document with up-to-date 2015 statistics.

The chart below was generated using the following IDP scoring system:

Solo Tackle = 1.5 pts
Assist = 0.75 pts
Sack = 4 pts
FF = 4 pts
FR = 3 pts
INT = 6 pts
PD = 1.5 pts
Defensive TD = 6 pts

NOTE: The data is being displayed on the site using an embedded Google Document. Some readers may have issues viewing the tables depending on a myriad of different of factors (e.g. browser, device, method of viewing). This said, I've made the data available in downloadable spreadsheet and PDF form as well. See the download links below.

Looking for some CB help. I’ve currently got M. Hyde (vs. KC) and L. Joyner (vs. Pit) as my QBs. Via Footballoutsiders.com, Joyner only played 73% defensive snaps week 1 and 35% of snaps week 2. Hyde is roughly in the 70% range also.

How big a factor is number of snaps and matchup? My league is very tackle heavy, only 2 pts per Int. Should I pick up somebody like M. Butler or A. Blake that guy almost 100% snaps?

Joyner is the 8th ranked CB in my league…Just wanted to get you input!

@TitansFan
Joyner is a slot corner so his playing time will vary depending on the game scripts and opposing offenses' sets. I like at matchups very heavily for CBs. Go with that over a guy that plays 100% of the time.

Great info, you have helped me to start the season 3-0.
Are you recommending to look for matchups for CBs? Also what do you think of Joyner ROS?

Guru, Kind of frustrated with B. Church thus far. Matchup against the Saints this week, which seems like a decent play. However, Should I cut bait for the likes of J. Jenkins or C. Graham? Tackle heavy and INT heavy league. As always, thanks.

@Titanfan
Yes, looking at matchups is the best route to go for picking CBs (e.g. CB going against Drew Brees and NO). I see Joyner as a high variance CB2+.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Shane Stanton
Church hasn't had as much tackle opportunity with Sean Lee tackling everyone and the Cowboys defense not being on the field as much. I like Graham a lot this week. Church is the safer option, but I like Graham's upside as he could have a big game.

Ryan, both Kikaha and Stephone Anthony are out in our players pool (14 team league) for pick-up - which do you think has the most potential?

darryle Moody said...

Added on to my previous question, Rolondo McClain and Anthony Hitchens is also out in our players pool. So of these 4 (McClain, Hitchens, Kikaha, Anthony) which would you advise picking up?

Ryan,

Once again trying to choose my 2 starting CB’s. I currently have L. Joyner vs GB (31), T. Williams vs Bal (8), and M. Butler vs Dal (13).

On waivers: A. Blake vs SD (2), D.J Hayden vs Den (3), D. Trufant vs Was (5)

Joyner is the 11th ranked CB overall in my league putting up 9, 5, 4.5, and 6.5 points the past 4 weeks. Do I roll with him even though he plays such a low ranking team like GB?

There looks to be a few good options on waivers also, thanks!!

do we need to be worried about worrilow? has not been very productive

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@darryle Moody
I'd go with Anthony in balanced and tackle heavy leagues. Although Hitchens may be the better play this week if Lee is out.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@TitansFan
With all the other options being uninspiring, I would continue to roll with Joyner. He's been a solid tackle option so we can hope for 5 or solo tackles. Just not a good chance for INT against GB.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Brent Deangelis
I've drop him down from about LB10 to LB20ish range. He's a bit banged up right now and got pulled last week due to the blowout, so his numbers should stabilize a bit (especially if Durant misses any time).

Ryan,

I'm currently starting Navorro Bowman and Ryan Shazier in my two IDP player slots, in a slightly tackle-heavy scoring 16-team league. Jelani Jenkins was just dropped this morning after waivers cleared. Is it worth dropping Derrick Johnson for him, in your opinion? Derrick Johnson has been inconsistent thus far, possibly partly due to his age/injury history catching up to him. What are your thoughts for ROS? Worth it?

TitansFan said...

Would you consider playing Kerry Wynn over Robert Quinn?

Assuming Ayers will be out, and Wynn has gotten 8 tackles a game with him gone. Also, Quinn plays the last ranked Packers

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Beaster
Yes, I like Jenkins more than Johnson ROS.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@TitansFan
Roll with Quinn. It's just not good practice to bench elite DEs, especially for low upside guys like Wynn.

I have Odell Beckam Jr on my team, although i have Bethea in as DB. As a strong safety will i have a conflict of interest there? Will I be dropping Bethea and looking elsewhere? Thanks for the advice and the fantastic column/site. Loving IDP's in my 3 year of a 14 team league.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Michael Barch
Nope. I don't see the conflict.

Great stuff. Pick 2 of these: M.Smith, J.Hicks, or D.Levy

TitansFan said...

For this week that is.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@TitansFan
Please use my weekly rankings.

Could you add a column for current week's opponent to the points allowed table? And thank you so much for the great work!

Bobot41 said...

Who do you prefer ROS ?

D. Bucannon or Burnett??

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Bobot41
Bucannon

Bobot41 said...

Thanks Ryan! I have 4 db's and need to get rid of one. I've been leaning toward getting rid of Burnett. My other 3 are Corey Graham, Mark Barron and Bucannon. Drop Burnett then ya think?

Is there a way to change the point format? Is there an excel file you can link where I can change the values to reflect my league settings? If so that would be awesome.....thanks

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@416bb900-898d-11e5-9070-e70bc970642c
Unfortunately, the data I get isn't that granular so I can't provide that. Sorry!

M. Kendricks only played 60% of snaps last week, with Ryans at 72 and Alonso at 45. How do you think that LB group will shake out?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Unknown
It's really hard to tell what Chip Kelly is going to do from week to week. If I were a betting man, I would say that rotation will continue this week.

Trying to decide to roll with Breeland covering Dez with cassel playing at being a NFL QB or Walter Thurmond (S,CB) against NE. Any help be much appreciated since I'm in a must win. Thanks guys!

Any opinions on Jason Verrett vs Dolphins or Walter Thurmond vs Cardinals for cb?

Where do you get your underlying data from for Points Allowed stats? Do you cull it manually from ESPN?

@Flipperbw
In the beginning of the article, I outline the scoring system and my source.
