2013 Weekly IDP Rankings: Defensive Backs

These are The IDP Guru's Weekly Defensive Back Rankings (for redraft leagues). This page will be updated each week to properly reflect that current week's rankings.

The "Match-Up Strength" is based off of the latest IDP Points Allowed by Position document. These numbers are to be used directionally early in the season. As the season progresses and more data builds, the accuracy of the match-up information increases.

The color key for the strength of weekly matchups is listed below.

Key:
Favorable Matchup
Mediocre Matchup

Why are you rating Quin so high? What is your thinking?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@dave
He's been great in preseason and has been one of the more underrated safeties in the league as of late. He will be up in the box trying to stop AP, so I think he has a solid chance at some nice tackle numbers this week.

Eric Mees said...

would you go with Burnett or Pollard based on the matchups?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Eric Mees
I'd still go with Burnett. Those matchup strengths are based off last year so I would only use them directionally. As the season progresses, the confidence level of those strengths becomes stronger.

Brendan Sheehan said...

Why does Gilchrest get no love, being a SS but designated as CB?

Michael Suna said...

How come I can't see the rankings?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Michael Suna
Typically has to do with the browser since I'm using an embedded Google Doc to show the rankings.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Brendan Sheehan
He's a sneaky play as a DB3+. And you have an argument that he should be included on the outskirts of the top 30. When you get to that point in the ranking however, many of the guys are interchangeable.

Msigns said...

please speak on Duke Ihenacho.. he will probably be hot on waivers this week. Is he the real deal?
3 deflected passes- 11 solo...

jeramiehieb said...

Do you believe that Ryan Mundy can do what their FS position seems to do often and put Top 15 DB numbers? (.5 point per assist)

PLEASE...start 1, bench 1, drop 1:

Johnathan Cyprien
Patrick Chung
Kenny Vaccaro

Thanks,

An Austin Texas New York Giants fan looking for any way to rationalize picking up and starting Ryan Mundy for this weekends Giants vs Cowboys game they are attending Sunday night in Dallas!

Anthony Mullins said...

Treymon Williams (Packers) or Josh Norman (Panthers)??

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Anthony Mullins
Williams

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Msigns
I think Duke is the real deal and is worth a waiver wire pickup. There will be more on him in my Week 2 Waiver Wire article.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@jeramiehieb
I'm not sold on Mundy as a top 15 DB. I'd start Chung today. If he can stay healthy, he should have a nice year.

jeramiehieb said...

I appreciated your suggestion, but I just could not help myself considering the circumstances, so I picked up Mundy and started him (11 pts!!! and should have been 17 if he had not finished his interception return on the 1 yard line)

Thanks again, and while I may not always follow it... I always respect your advice.

Harry Hood said...

A. Williams or D. Searcy?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Harry Hood
Williams

munygon2 said...

DeAngelo Hall or Devin McCourty? McCourty has dual eligibility in Yahoo leagues as both SS and CB. Which one is the best bet?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@munygon2
I like Hall. One of the most consistent fantasy CBs out there and will see a lot of passes this week against the Packers.

SinVin said...

You're the man still!

I can play either Da'Norris Searcy or Tyrann Mathieu at my CB position.

We start a Safety and a CB. I got Pollard as my Safety.

Who do I go with at CB???

Thanks Again...

josh mayer said...

What are your thought on Brandon browner ?

Ben Strauss said...

I have Reshad Jones, Deangelo Hall, Malcolm Jenkins, Quniten Mikell, Dawan Landry. Mundy also on Waiver Wire. Need to start 4. 1.5 pts Solo, 1 ASSt, 5pts SCK 5 INT, 3FF 5FR 10TD

Thanks

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@SinVin
I'd go Honey Badger.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@josh mayer
He's alright. Depends on how deep the league.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Ben Strauss
Hall, Jones, Landry, Mundy.

Kirby DeNault said...

Guru, does Tyvon Branch have a better matchup this week now that Henne was names starting QB?

ryno2020 said...

Hey Guru, what are your thoughts on Kenny Vaccaro and Aaron Williams? Thanks

joel monod said...

Devin McCourty
Earl thomas
Honey badger
Jon Cyprien

Pick any 2

Leaning towards Tyrann and Mccourty

Love the website
Love the weekly rankings....You guys are the best
Thanks

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Kirby DeNault
Don't see a huge difference with Henne in there.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@ryno2020
Vaccaro could wind up having the most value in NO of all three safeties. Aaron Williams DB3+.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@joel monod
I like Cyprien and Tyrann.

J. Michael Eugenio said...

@Ryan Sitzmann

I'm a little bit confused. Isn't Pollard ranked #1? Should I not start him over Harrison Smith?

Thanks!

Epox of Exodar said...

Kinda confused Ryan! You raved about the gold mine that is the buffalo strong safety position earlier this week, (and I agree!) but you don't rank Da'Norris Searcy. What gives?

Jason Bryant said...

What do you think about Eric Reid (SF). He looked pretty dominant to me, but I haven't seen you mention him anywhere. Thanks in advance.

Samuel Lingle said...

I've got Roman Harper, Aaron Williams, TJ Ward, Charles Woodson, and Chris Clemons. We start 3 each week.

It's a big play league so sacks are huge and pass defenses are valuable.

I want to drop one for an RB; Clemons?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Epox of Exodar
Searcy is a part-time player, so there's a chance he doesn't get enough snaps to be a viable option.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Jason Bryant
Not huge on him because I think his tackle opps will be limited playing behind Willis and Bowman and their defense gets off the field in quick order.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Samuel Lingle
Yah, I'd drop Clemons.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@J. Michael Eugenio
Pollard is ranked #1 due to his matchup.

Uy said...

For my IDP flex, Mason Foster or Antrel Rolle?

xtjp760 said...

Mathieu...Finnegan....Rambo...Godfrey....Pick 2 sir...thanks for your help!

prafeston said...

I picked up Duke and dropped Barron... bad move?

SwinganaMiss said...

I picked up L Webb in a return ydg league, after Jacoby Jones went down. Not 100% certain he will continue to return punts. What happened last week with Manning throwing all over the field and Webb getting only one Tackle and one PD? Was he shutting down Decker or was he a step slow?
To play him I would bench Berry, Branch or Roach(Flex). For now, I think I am taking "wait and see" approach. Agree?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Uy
Foster (although the matchup isn't good). I'd almost always roster a LB over DB in my flex.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@xtjp760
Mathieu and Finnegan.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@prafeston
Lateral move most likely.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@SwinganaMiss
Webb is a good cover corner so sometimes he doesn't get thrown at. Plus, Decker had a horrible game. Bench him for now and take a wait and see approach.

John Kessanis said...

Guru, now that the Cards have come out and said Peterson will shadow Calvin all day on Sunday, does that make Peterson a more favorable IDP play? Would you play him over Mathieu or Earl Thomas?

You Got Schwartzed said...

Hey laron landry, Nick Roach, mychal Kendricks, or geno Atkins pick two to start?

ryno2020 said...

Hey Guru, Vaccaro, Mundy, or Church? Thanks

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@You Got Schwartzed
Landry and Roach.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@ryno2020
Mundy

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@John Kessanis
He gets a bump. I'd play him over Thomas.

mperi61 said...

Goldson, EThomas, Chancellor? Pick one please. Thanks!

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@mperi61
Chancellor

prafeston said...

Seems Eric Berry is in a slump...two pretty dud weeks for me. Should I look to replace him or wait out this slump? Some CBs on the up in my WW are: Alterraun Verner, Robert McClain, Aqib Talib, Tyrann Mathieu, Kam Chancellor.

prafeston said...

Also, it looks like my swap for Duke from Barron was a bad call. Duke was doing ok, but Barron had a nice day and Duke got hurt so I'm probably gonna need to replace him too!

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@prafeston
Berry had 6 solos, 1 assists, 1 TFL, and a 0.5 sack in Week 1. So I think he's fine. Cowboys didn't run the ball much so that hurt his numbers. Don't panic.

Yah, the Duke for Barron swap is a lateral move at best in all likelihood. I prefer Barron as he's a bit more proven.

prafeston said...

Unfortunately someone already snagged him of the WW when I dropped him.

N said...

Hi Ryan,

No love for Aaron Williams after your strong plug for him in the Waiver Pick Ups?

Thanks,

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@N
He's listed at #18.

Patrick Carpenter said...

Drop Tillman to pick up Tyrann Mathieu? I realize if I drop Tillman he will be snatched up immediately. Tillman looks a bit slow to me this year. Tyrann gets me excited?

What do you think of my predicament?

Dear Guru, Which 2 dbs this week: Duke Nacho, Reshad Jones, Ryan Mundy, Robert McClain, Aaron Williams, or DaNorris Searcy? As always.....Thanks! You da man!

Tony Gross said...

Is there any chance to start Petersen (vs NO) this week over Weddle. Will there be enough tackle opportunites for Weddle?

Ryan Barsotti said...

Thoughts on Patrick Peterson? He may get some offensive snaps (as he did this week) and my league gives points for return yards. How valuable is he?

Uy said...

I'm surprised Woodson is so high consider the slow start he's had. Any insight you could give me?

Francisco said...

I noticed you have Rambo (who btw has the coolest name in the league) ranked #13 but he was never mentioned on your waiver wire column. What is your take on him for the remainder of the season?

Also, it would be cool to have the Remainder of the Season rankings like you had the previous years. I think it would bring it down the increased number of questions you have been getting in the comments section.

Thanks!

N said...

Hi Ryan,

Indeed he is at #18 :-)

How would you rank ROS in a very tackle heavy league:

Cyprien
Clark
Williams
Mundy

Thanks man,

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Ryan Barsotti
Not a huge Peterson fan. DB4+ value.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Patrick Carpenter
Nope. Keep Tillman. Sell high on Mathieu after this week or sit him until he gets a starting job.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Jason R
Please refer to my rankings. Thanks!

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Tony Gross
I'd still start Weddle. Brees will probably avoid Peterson, when possible.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Uy
Raiders defense is going to be on the field a lot and Manning is going to throw A LOT. Should translate to good tackle opportunity for Woodson.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Francisco
I think his production will likely trail off. ROS Rankings are up!

Andy Wysocki said...

I see in some box scores Eric Berry had a target against the Eagles. What do you make of this? Any talk about working him into the offense?

L Hayes said...

Ihenacho gonna play mnf? Worthy of a grab as a db2?

xtjp760 said...

pick 2 sir... Mathieu, A.Williams, Rambo, Inenacho... too tough a call for me..

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Andy Wysocki
Not going to play into fantasy performances. You can ignore.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@L Hayes
I think he will play (he has said he's going to). I like him as a DB2-/DB3+ish play.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@xtjp760
Mathieu and Williams.

Richard Mazahreh said...

my 2 DB for week 4 are Mathieu and Wright. I have Morgan Burnett, waiting to see if he comes back...

I also have Woodson on waivers.

Should I drop Wright for Woodson? And is it even worth hanging on to Burnett? (I could use the bench space)

Richard Mazahreh said...

Also, Cyprien and Vaccaro are on waivers.

I'm pretty happy with Mathieu, but who should I bet on for the long term?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Richard Mazahreh
I'm a bit worried about Mathieu long-term as he's had great matchups to start the year and playing against spread offenses have kept his snap counts up. However, he's been too good to drop/not play and the injury to Johnson could mean he plays full-time for the immediate future. I like Woodson more than Wright this week. Burnett is worth hanging on to, but the injury is probably going to keep him out a couple more weeks.

Richard Mazahreh said...

Thanks for the heads up! Mathieu has literally won me 2 games already this season lol I got to keep believing!

BTW your website is fantastic. I've never played IDP until this year and thanks to your rankings my team now looks like this and is producing;

LB1: NaVorro Bowman
LB2: Wesley Woodyard

DL1: Mario Williams
DL2: Carlos Dunlap

DB1: Mathieu
DB2: Woodson

One last question; I have Bowman, Woodyard, and Willis on my team. Willis is under performing and injured. For the long term, do you recommend I stay with Woodyard? I have Donald Butler on waivers too, and he's healthy and probable for this weeks matchup. I'm a huge fan of his upside. Obviously Bowman is always going to start, but out of the other 3 who would you recommend investing in for the long term? (Willis, Butler, Woodyard?)

xtjp760 said...

I have Nacho, Nate Allen, Mathieu and Aaron Williams.... I see your matchups...Mathieu and Williams are terrible...Nacho is injured and didn't finish the last game which hurt me...Nate has a green matchup....which two do i play?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@xtjp760
Can't base everything on the matchups as those are just for guidance and with only three weeks of data, a bit skewed. I actually don't mind Williams' matchup. Honey Badger's is really bad, but hard to bench him after his start to the season. I'd stick with Williams and Mathieu unless you see Duke is going to play then put him in for Williams.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Richard Mazahreh
Willis and Woodyard. I love Butler's upside too, but he needs to be more consistent and the return of Teo will likely hurt his numbers.

Richard Mazahreh said...

thanks again!

Uy said...

I'm not sure who to put into my flex position. Tim Jennings is available and is high on your board this week with a favorable matchup. Akeem Dent is also available but he's not in your top 30 LB board this week.

Sacha Francisco said...

Of these three who would you start week 4? Antoine Bethea, Kam Chancellor or Barry Church.

TaylorE said...

Weddle is availble in my league on waivers. I currently have Pollard, Chancellor, & Cyprien (start two DBs) in a combined offense and IDP league. Do I drop Pollard because of byes for Weddle, drop one of the others for him, or keep what I have? What's your recommendation for week 4 & ROS? Thanks a ton!!!

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Uy
Go with Jennings.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Sacha Francisco
Chancellor

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@TaylorE
Please refer to rankings for Week 4 advice. I think Chancellor is the odd man out ROS.

SinVin said...

Honey Badger or Aaron Williams ROS? Can play both as CB which is great.

Dave Siegelin said...

I got the Honey Badger and Charles Tillman, but I know Tillman is injured... should I pickup Cyprien, Woodson, or Aaron WIlliams instead. Thanks!

Dave Siegelin said...

or Cary Williams

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@SinVin
Honey Badger

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Dave Siegelin
Go with Woodson.

munygon2 said...

Any love for Tramon Williams or Sam Shields this week? I've seen consistent production from both of these guys in the first 3 games they have played in. I currently have Sherman, but he seems to be boom or bust.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@munygon2
I like them as high variance DB3 plays this week.

Uy said...

What are you thoughts on Alterraun Verner? I have him starting for me, but Laron Landry is available.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Uy
Like Landry more if he plays but that's a big question mark yet right now.

Leon Vining said...

Any love for Verner, he seems to be following up a solid year last year with a great year now. I was considering dropping Aaron Williams for him if I can't get Burnett. Bad call?

Uy said...

@Leon Vining
I'm curious about Verner too since I picked him up and have him starting. My concern is that he's thriving on picks, which isn't as consistent as tackles.

logankila said...

Hey Ryan! I can't seem to decide which DB to start this week. I got Major Wright, Reshad Jones, and Donte Whitner. Based on your rankings I'm stuck between Wright and Whitner. Who has the better upside? Who would you start? I appreciate all that you do!

Mahalo!

Gregory Thomas said...

Major Wright seems kind of low considering he has a great matchup against Schaub. Would you play him over Mathieu in a league that place a high value on INTs?

Gregory Thomas said...

@Gregory Thomas

Sorry meant Wright's matchup against the Saints

L Hayes said...

Can u explain why u have duke as #1, his tackle numbers haven't been elite really. Same with Woodson.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Uy
I've always been a fan of Verner's. However, I don't like the KC matchup that much as Alex Smith doesn't throw many picks and the WRs don't catch a lot of balls.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@logankila
Go with Wright over Whitner.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Gregory Thomas
Agree he may be a bit low (he's #11 now though). He does have a nice matchup and should put up good numbers. Mathieu hasn't really had a bad game yet and I'm really impressed with his play so far and he has big play making ability. Close call between the two. Wouldn't fault you for starting Wright over Mathieu.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@L Hayes
I have him as a top 5 DB right now. In the two games, he's actually played all the way through without leaving with an injury, he's put up 11-1-0 and 9-0-0 stat line. Plus, he looks great on tape. He's an elite fantasy DB IMO.

xtjp760 said...

Mathieu or Nate Allen sir?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@xtjp760
Please refer to the rankings. Mathieu.

Stevencruz210 said...

im playing my shit talking bestfriend haha i really wanna beat him can you help me out plz????
pick 2
Ihenacho, Pollard, Wright, Jennings and R. Jones

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Stevencruz210
Ihenacho and Pollard (based off my rankings which are listed above).

SinVin said...

All signs point to Burnett starting this week vs the Lions. Should I start him over Pollard?

I know your rankings have Pollard higher but not sure if that was before Burnett was confirmed to start.

SinVin said...

Btw, I know sit/start Q's are annoying when you post rankings but this one seems unique.

Ha! Respect the Rankings!!!!

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@SinVin
I think Burnett could have a huge game, but always worry about a player who has missed a lot of practice and game time coming back in his first game. Only reason I have Pollard higher this week. If you are willing to take some risk, Burnett has the higher ceiling. If you want to play it safe, go with Pollard.

KJT said...

I have to play a CB. What do you think of Janoris Jenkins this week? The other CB's on your rankings list are already taken in my league. I can't decide between Morgan Burnett or Charles Woodson.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@KJT
Not big on the STL corners this week against an anemic Jaguar pass offense. I'd rather go with Tramon Williams, Sam Shields, Aqib Talib, Webb, or McClain (in that order).

Andrew Palmer said...

Tillman or Honeybadger?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Andrew Palmer
Coin flip. Tillman has better upside but Mathieu is slightly safer play although the matchup isn't great.

Richard Mazahreh said...

Damn, I have Mathieu, Woodson, and Cyprien. Have to start two. Its a coin flip for me based on the match ups...but what do you think? I think Mathieu is a safe bet. But I like Cyprien against a pass happy Broncos than a run heavy KC with Woodson. But Manning doesn't throw a lot of INT's....so gosh, what would you do?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Richard Mazahreh
I think Mathieu and Cyprien are the safer plays. But Woodson has the higher upside. So choose according to your risk tolerance. Mathieu has been really good and I own him in a league, but I'm slightly concerned that he may lose snaps with Johnson back. His play has been strong enough to warrant an every down role, but you never know what the coaching staff may do.

E said...

Why is Pollard at #1 despite the poor matchup? Do you seem him taking on more of an LB role against the Seahawks?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@E
Yes, Pollard has been playing more like a LB (more in the box) and is more dependent on tackles for production. That said, the Seahawks are a great matchup in that regard.

Abhishek Sahai said...

Tillman inactive! Isaiah Frey cb2+ tonight?

Abhishek Sahai said...

Or zack bowman?

Jacob Tasoulas said...

If LaRon Landry plays, does he make it into your rankings? And How would you rank the BUF DBs with Byrd coming back? I have Williams, and Byrd is on the wire. (semi-deep league) Thanks.

xtjp760 said...

Alright... I can only play 2.. Mathieu, A.Williams, Duke, Cyprien..... Cyprien and A.Williams would seem the plays according to your "points allowed by position" chart...both have green matchups as well...man I hate this...

ryno2020 said...

Do you see Searcy still playing the majority of snaps with Byrd returning this week? Thanks

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Jacob Tasoulas
If Landry plays I'd put him in the 10-15 range. Buf DBs ROS I like Williams, Byrd, then Searcy. I think Searcy will become rotation once all the DBs are at full health.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@xtjp760
The matchup chart admittedly doesn't tell the whole story (e.g. within DBs, CBs and safeties are lumped together). That said, always use the rankings to determine who to start as I factor in A LOT more into my rankings than just the matchup strength column.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@ryno2020
Depends on the health of the corners. Once everyone is healthy, I think Williams slots into SS role with Byrd full-time at FS. I can see Searcy getting some subpackage snaps, but I think his overall snap counts will eventually go down quite a bit. However, he may be fine for this week.

xtjp760 said...

@Ryan Sitzmann Mathieu and Cyprien it is then! Thanks man!

Harry Hood said...

With Bryd back should I play Aron Williams or Danorris Searcy?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Harry Hood
Go with Searcy for this week still.

bsteinway said...

Ryan, I'm a huge fan of the site. First time I've ever posted a question though. I own Eric Berry and Duke Ihenacho. LaRon Landry is a free agent in our league and I had thought about his upside being more valuable than Berry's. Would you drop Berry or Ihenacho for Landry? Thanks

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@bsteinway
I like Landry better than Berry. I think Berry is a bit overrated especially since KC's offense is better and sustaining drives. However, Landry is so injury-prone that he's a big risk to depend on as your main DB1. If you are in a position where you need to gain points, go with Landry. If you feel like your team is strong already, keep Berry.

Unknown said...

Do you think it's better to play a higher rank in your rankings, or a better match-up for this week?

For example, I currently have Bernard Pollard (rank:2, matchup:32), but T.J. Ward (rank:4, matchup:4) is available.

My league awards 2pts per tackle.

Flash said...

Any news on Harrison Smith playing this week? If not, which MIN DB should I look to pick up? Or should I look elsewhere, possibly SF - I was thinking Eric Reid might have some nice upside based on the matchup.... Thanks!

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Unknown
I typically recommend always going by ranking not matchup strength. I base Pollard's ranking more on linebacker strength as opposed to DB ranking as he depends on tackles for production and spends most of his time in the box.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Flash
No news on Smith yet, but my gut tells me he's going to miss this week. Sanford is the safety to probably pick up from Minnesota if Smith is OUT.

Lazarus Metcalfe said...

Why is Quin not even on this? I believe he is facing the team 2nd worst in points given to DB. Just curious, thanks!

Flash said...

Sanford vs Landry assuming Laron is healthy and Harrison Smith is OUT...

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Flash
Landry

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Lazarus Metcalfe
He's had 3 games with 2 solos our less and the improved play of Levy and Tulloch upfront make him too high of a variance play for me personally. Low-end DB3-.

Matt Walsh said...

Great stuff guru. What are your thoughts on starting two Chiefs against Houston....berry and d. Johnson? Any issues? Also, you have duke ranked high against Indy while cyprien is ranked lower against SD, an easier defense. Is Duke just much better?

SinVin said...

Does Harrison Smith get bumped up if playing at full go? He's on waivers with Morgan Burnett. Who's better pick up ROS?

Jason R said...

Guru, What happened to Aaron Williams in Buffalo? His numbers have dropped significantly. Is he safe to drop now? Thanks!

joel monod said...

Cyprien - Mathieu - Earl Thomas
can only start 2
I like Thomas and The Badger but hate having them go at the same time on Thursday

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Matt Walsh
I don't worry too much about starting two players on the same D. If they are projected to produce, then I don't see an issue. Duke is ranked higher as I see him as more matchup independent than Cyprien.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@SinVin
Yah, he get's a slight bump. But I doubt he's going to go. I think he may be out a while.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Jason R
He's been playing CB exclusively not safety (even with Byrd back, Searcy is still playing safety). That may change, but it looks like it's probably going to stick for now.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@joel monod
Refer to rankings

Jeremiah said...

How about Marcus Cooper this week? Will he still be getting snaps this week with injuries. He has but up dominate fantasy numbers, capitalizing off injuries.

Jeremiah said...

I'd replace him with James Ihedigbo, but would need to drop him to do so.

E said...

Does Duke Ihenacho play the same 'in the box' style as Bernard Pollard? Is that why you have him ranked so high despite the seemingly poor matchup? Do you see Ihenacho's tackle opportunities declining with the return of Von Miller to the Denver defense?

E said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
Mario Rodriguez said...

Hello Guru.. It looks like Landry might play Sunday night If he indeed does where would you rank him? Also Eric Reid isn't on your rank list this week. Does Morgan Burnett pick up his play too?

Mario Rodriguez said...

Disregard the Landry ranking i'm totally blind.. Thanks

Adam said...

@E

Also interested in your thoughts here. Should I pick up Gipson in CLE vs. GB to plug in this week or can I keep rolling with Nacho?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Jeremiah
Cooper in big play, Ihedigbo is balanced and tackle-heavy.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@E
Yes and yes. I still see him as a DB1-.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Adam
Roll with Duke.

3fd8ff32-210f-11e3-bc03-000bcdcb2996 said...

Hey Ryan,

Would you rather play Jennings or Burnett this week? Big play league with 5 points for interceptions, 5 for sacks, 3 for tipped passes and 1 point for tackles. Not to mention 6 for touchdowns including yards ran. Thanks.

Adam said...

@Ryan Sitzmann

Thanks Ryan. Appreciate the advice.

Jason R said...

Guru, Would you go with Reshad Jones or Jamarca Sanford this week as db2? I think Sanford may be sneaky good (if he can stay healthy) especially with his match-up this weekend. Thanks!

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@3fd8ff32-210f-11e3-bc03-000bcdcb2996
Burnett still. I don't like to depend on big plays for production as they are too hard to predict.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Jason R
Jones although Sanford is a nice sneaky play. Not sure how Smith being OUT affects him moving forward, however.

jeramiehieb said...

Ryan, just want to comment on how awesome your site is: IT'S AWESOME!

SinVin said...

Guru,

Just I start to panic about Honey Badger? Has the bottom fallen out? What happened last night?

E said...

Any last minute thoughts on LaRon Landry? The matchup is very enticing. He's been fully practicing all week. Jerrell Freeman is out, so should be extra tackle opportunities.

Uy said...

Banged up, but playing, Tillman or seemingly healthy Laron Landry?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@SinVin
He was moved back to a nickel role which caused his snaps to decrease. He only played about 50% of the time. Probably best to bench him moving forward or move on completely in shallow leagues.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@E
Just bumped Landry way up in my rankings. He's safe to play as a DB1 this week.

NYC Father said...

Still can't rank Mike Mitchell? What scoring system do you use?

Clausen said...

What do you think of Micah Hyde. Punt returns plus some hype for ball-skills compared to Charles Woodson.

SinVin said...

Guru,

Huge decision. Looks like Aaron Williams is moving back to safety. Do I start him over Honey Badger? CB required league. Both eligible.

@NYC Father
He's in my rankings this week. I'm still a bit skeptical of his recent production. He's seemed to be in the right place at the right time the last couple games. He's an aggressive, tackle-minded safety though, so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

@Clausen
Wouldn't say his value is comparable to Woodson's and his matchup is poor this week. He's probably a player just to monitor at this point.

@SinVin
I know, I've been toiling with it as well. My gut is telling me that Honey Badger's value is dropping with his losing snaps and Aaron Williams value will rise as the season progresses. The historical numbers state differently, but if you are a gut person, I'd go with Williams in the better matchup this week.

Does this sway you any re: Williams over Honey Badger?

Is the Honey Badger droppable?

How can you keep rating Quin in the top 30? He has been downright awful virtually all season. BTW, you do an awesome job...not being snide (watch Quin perform all world)..

SinVin said...

I dropped him for Aaron Williams who's back at Safety. Think HB is back to nickel package CB.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@dave
Totally understand your sentiment. Quin's numbers have dipped due to the improved play of Tulloch and Levy in front of him. He's still an effective player. He's not a player I'm overly excited about but I think the Cowboys are going to pass a ton in this game and am banking on a INT for Quin from Romo.

@SinVin
I think Mathieu likely is back in the nickel package only, but he was successful there for the first handful of games earlier in the season. It really depends on the matchup. He should see more snaps this week against Atlanta. I realize he may be on a downward trend, but it's hard for me to dump a guy who has 6 solid weeks out of 7, especially because the DB waiver wire is quite thin and unpredictable in most leagues. I like the Williams pick up though.

Thank you sir. I've learned a lot from this site. I didn't want to drop HB but I like Williams upside/role, especially vs Saints. Buffalo has been my go to for DBs for years.

Cyprien and Woodson on my squad for DB...who would you start tomorrow and why?
Thank you sir!

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@JTEXAS
Woodson. He's one of the most consistent fantasy producers in the last 10 years. He just finds a way to get you points. Cyprien is tackle dependent and still inconsistent as many rookies are.

Hello Ryan,

Cyprien vs.SF or Williams @ NO......Tackle heavy league. I'm thinking Wiliams has a better match up, but you have Cypien ranked higher this week. Give me the winner Ryan, who would you put in this week?

Jamarca Sanford is questionable with an ankle. Looks like he will try to play but with the late start does this drop him out of your rankings? Rolle and Vaccaro are available in my league. What about Rambo? I think he could be a sleeper vs Denver.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Sir Tom
If he plays, start Sanford. Otherwise, if you don't feel comfortable waiting pick up Rolle. I'm actually avoiding the Redskins safety situation this week as they may rotate multiple bodies.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Eddie
I only have Cyprien higher because I do not completely trust the Bills safety situation. I think Williams will be moved back to SS this week, but not sure. Cyprien safer play, if you need a big week, go with Williams.
