2012 Weekly IDP Rankings: Defensive Linemen

These are The IDP Guru's Weekly Defensive Lineman Rankings (for redraft leagues). This page will be updated each week to properly reflect that current week's rankings.

The "Match-Up Strength" is based off of the latest IDP Points Allowed by Position document. These numbers are to be used directionally early in the season. As the season progresses and more data builds, the accuracy of the match-up information increases.

The color key for the strength of weekly matchups is listed below.

Key:
Favorable Matchup
Mediocre Matchup

is michael bennett injured? hes projected 0 point in yahoo

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@L Hayes
He's probably and all indications point to him playing this week. He matchup isn't very good this week though as Manning is hard to sack. But I would project him for me than 0 points :)

ok, DL2, I'm looking at Tuck, Quinn (who may or may not play) or avril. I know tuck isnt on your list but wash gives up lots to DL, and hes monday night which is always fun. Avril has been great of recent and is at home so he might be great, and quinn is only eh but hes highest of them on your board. thoughts? wheres the idp app?!?

@L Hayes
Unfortunately, the weekly rankings app isn't happening this year. Working on some BIG stuff for next year, however. I'd go with Quinn. Outside of last week, he's been fairly dependable and has another good matchup against SF this week.

I've got Clemons, C. Johnson, and Avril, need to start two, Tackle is 1 pt, Sack is 4pt, FF is 2 pt. Clemons and Avril have the better match-up, but Johnson had 3.5 sacks on Atl last time, and Clemons has put up a bunch of duds - so I'm leaning toward Avril and one of the other two - need advise, thanks.

I'm going with Clemons and Johnson. I know Clemons dudded last week, but the matchup this week is too good to pass up. Plus, the law of averages says he's due :).

Thanks for your hard work all season. I am in the playoffs now.

I have to choose JPP or Carlos Dunlap. It is a 1.25 tackle, .75 assist, 4 sack, 4 fumble force league. I just can't decide. Proven point scorer or risky upside.

For the first time I feel confident with my DL choices... perfect timing for the playoffs!

I've got Avril, Babin, Dunlap, and Graham... had 'em all season and it's been super disappointing, but Dunlap is finally producing, and Babin and Graham are now both decent plays after the move Philly made.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@ironmanbravo
I'd go with Dunlap. JPP has been struggling as of late and has perhaps the worst possible matchup this week in NO. Dunlap has a great matchup, on the other hand.

Does Trevor Scott's ranking hold now it looks like Chandler Jones will return this week?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Nick
No. Don't roster Scott if Jones plays.

The question of the week...

Clemons or J Allen???

@SinVin
I'd go with Allen. He's playing better despite his injuries and the matchup is quite good.

Great site, and thank you for your work on it -- I have no idea why ESPN hasn't already hired you.

I'm debating between Carlos Dunlap and Charles Johnson. Obviously you have Dunlap rated higher, and he definitely has a good matchup. He should abuse Doug Free and get to Romo a couple of times. My concern is that Dallas will run left behind Tyron Smith all day -- away from Dunlap, so he won't get any tackles vs. the run.

Johnson supposedly has a bad matchup, but he obliterated Tyson Clabo in their first meeting this season; Johnson had 3.5 sacks and 6 tackles that week, and probably outscored my QB. Granted, Clabo had a hip injury then and is healthier now.

Both guys are at home, with generous scorekeepers; Carolina's scorekeeper is more prone to dish out solo tackles (no credit for assists in our league).

Which guy would you go with?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Fire Coach K
I still like Dunlap better. Atlanta will probably run the ball more than they did in the first matchup. Plus, they will likely shift more focus/help to Johnson after he destroyed them earlier in the season.

The Cowboys don't have anyone to help Free on the right side. The only downside is that Romo is fairly elusive in the pocket so Dunlap will really have to finish his sacks.

Ryan,

I have Mericlus in my league listed as a DL. Should i roll with him or Ngata? Obviously a BIG week.

Peppers, Avril..pick one sir..Thank ya!

Ok buddy...Serious Business...

Down 38

J Allen, Dunlap or Peppers?

Must get pts out of D-Line

DT: Justin Smith or Suh?

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@alb
I'd go with Wake and Avril. Dumervil has been solid this season, but Wake's been better and Avril has been hot and has a great matchup.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Mantoothe
Yah, I like Mercilus better than Ngata this week.

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@xtjp760
It's close, but I like Peppers slightly more. He's got a really good matchup (as does Avril).

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@SinVin
I'd roll with Peppers as the Packers have been giving up a ton of points to DLs. For DT, I'd go with Smith in tackle-heavy leagues and Suh in balanced or sack-heavy leagues.

If JPP doesn't play this Sunday or plays hurt, what are your thoughts on subbing in DL Frostee Rucker for him? My thoughts are since his matchup is so good he may score more than an injured JPP, what you think GURU?

What 2 of the 4 would you play:
JPP
Whitney Mercilus
Frostee Rucker
Elvis Dumervil

Ryan Sitzmann said...

@Ewok Juggernaut
I play my stud DLs down the stretch. JPP and Dumervil

Hey Ryan. Thanks a lot for your help this year. You helped me get to the finals and I got a big game this week. I have Justin Smith for my DT and need to find another DT this week to fill in. It's a 16 team league so there's not much available on the wire and all of the D lineman in your rankings are available. Can you recommend a couple of deep league DTs for me? Thanks again Ryan.
