2012 Defensive Coordinators and Schemes

This article will be updated throughout the off-season and contains valuable information pertaining to NFL defensive schemes and coaching changes for the 2012 Season. When selecting an IDP, it is important to not only know what position he plays, but also the defensive scheme he plays in as well. For example, having a SLB in a 4-3 defense is typically not a favorable fantasy situation since they have to get through an extra blocker to get to the ball and consequently have lower tackle numbers.

Here are the current situations around the NFL:

BASE DEFENSES
4-3:
CIN, TEN, NYG, PHI, SEA, ATL, DET, DEN, CLE, OAK, CAR, IND, CHI
*3-4: SD, PIT, DAL, GB, ARI, KC, HOU, SF, WAS
Multiple Front: BAL, NYJ, NO, BUF, NE
TBD: MIN, TB, MIA, JAX, STL

*1-gap/2-gap notations on the 3-4 teams are the favored front, most teams are using a lot of 1-gap now

Note: Anything listed in RED is a change from the 2011 season.

Great info

Love the site - visit it daily during the season - Thanks

Do you have any under the radar guys that would be good off season pick ups or trade targets?

@Anonymous
I like Kelvin Sheppard a lot. It looks as though he could very well be the focal point of the defense moving forward.

I will be publishing a sleeper article sometime during the off-season which will be chalk full of players to target.

***NOTE: Please use a different display name than "Anonymous" when asking advice questions. It gets difficult to discern who I am answering when multiple people post under the same name.

Also, when asking for weekly matchup advice please mention the weekly opponent for each player you are listing. This helps me answer questions more quickly.
In addition, always list your scoring system as my advice will differ depending on the type of system being used.

Lastly, please don't duplicate the same exact post on other pages. We get notified of all comments that are posted and we will make sure to answer questions as quickly as we can. Posting the same question multiple times on different pages just slows the whole process down for everyone.

Thanks!
